More about Canyon Trip with Abseil

Our route is circular and includes a 30min hike in each direction to the river. Much of the hike is through indigenous South African forest and is enjoyable in itself. Participants hike in the neoprene boots provided, but the rest of the gear is carried. We don't hike in the wetsuits for reasons of hygiene and comfort, so please be prepared to hike both ways in your own clothes. There are no toilets or changing facilities along the trip, but the privacy of the forest is available for both. Once at the river, we gear up and start with the 30m high abseil into the river. Abseiling involves lowering yourself down a rope. There are multiple safety back ups in place. Alternatively, you can choose to be lowered down by your guide. A rope lower is more relaxed and allows you to appreciate the view more. Choosing to abseil allows you to learn a new skill and is challenging. Once the group is safely down, the river exploration and jumping opportunities commence. The cliff jumping is presented as a skill to be learned. Your guide will explain and demonstrate good technique to avoid getting hurt. The jumps progress from 1m to 13m, but they are all optional. You will get the chance to practice and build your confidence as necessary, getting feedback and advice from your guide.

After the Canyoning, the hike back is required. We stop to get changed out of the wetsuits and then tackle the hill at a slow but steady pace. Once back at the car, we drive to the Map of Africa view point to finish the trip with great views over the Kaaimans River and Indian Ocean.

Environmental responsibility: Please try to re-use a bottle that you already have for water. We provide free water refills. For every trip that we do, we try to improve the forest. We aim to plant an indigenous South African tree on every trip we do, as well as removing the alien invasive trees we encounter along the route. Thank you in advance for supporting the environment!

We loved the trip, don't want to compare but much better than our previous trip in the canyon with a different organisation. Met Greg and parked up. We walked down to the cliff site and did a super 30 m abseil, the first for my daighters and son. Greg made it very safe and was very professional on the whole trip. We loved the fact he showed us how to jump and was careful to vet us as we did jumps from 3 metres to 4,6,9,8 and finally 13 metres. The addition of wet suit head gear with helmet really helped my ears. The whole trip was great and we felt that Greg really has an affinity for nature and really wants to protect the environment. Many thanks The Benbow family

This trip was really fun! We enjoyed the adventure. Not well signed and at first we were a bit hesitant but our guide made us feel very comfortable and was well informed. He taught us how to abseil and cliff jump with good technique. He also showed great care for the environment. We got some awesome pics and memories. We Would recommend it!

We had a great experience on our Canyon Adventure. Greg made sure we all understood and abided by the safety measures and then created space for us to enjoy the beautiful kloof to its fullest. A nice personal touch at the end was the delicious energy snack made by his wife. We'll hopefully be back again!!

My brother and my 2 teenage children did the full canyon tour with abseil. They all thoroughly enjoyed it. They did find it quite strenuous especially my 13 year old daughter. A suggestion: I would suggest mentioning the fitness level required for the trip. My Dad was considering doing it and had he done it he would not have coped with the hiking parts which would have been disappointing. The nut chocolate brownie treat was a highlight. Please can I have the recipe :) A well organised trip and we appreciate the photo's and emails. Thank you
