The Route: Day 1: Cape Town to Franschhoek (80km) You start the day with a coffee at the RETZA Café, receiving your motorbike for the tour. The ride begins as a leisurely trip through the Durbanville Hills, along the wine route before starting up Helshoogte Road. You head into the mountains to arrive in Franschhoek, the base of the French Hugenots settlement in South Africa, and the heart of wine country. Take a relaxing stroll to explore the beautiful town of Franschhoek or jump on the famous historical Wine Tram which will take you on a ride through the beautiful winelands where you can visit the vineries, enjoy a wine pairing or wine tasting and visit famous wine cellars of some of the best South Africa vineyards. You can also explore the French museum and other historical sights before ending the day with a French inspired dinner.
Day 2: Franschhoek to Hermanus (100km) The second day’s ride starts up to join the Franschhoek pass, weaving your way down to the Cape’s largest dam, Theewaterskloof. From the dam, you turn and make your way through the mountains down to the town of Hermanus. Hermanus is famous for whale watching. Explore the waterfront, and have a glass of wine while watching for these magnificent beasts, or head down to chill on the beach. If you want to experience the thrill of Shark Cage Diving, we can organise a trip on the next early morning, before we head back to Cape Town.
Day 3: Hermanus to Cape Town (220km) Today’s ride hugs the coastline as you make your way along the picturesque Clarence drive, passing through the seaside towns of Strand, Gordons Bay and Rooi Els in the shadow of the Hottentots Hollands mountains.
You then join Baden Powell drive, leading you to Beach Road, riding along the coast through the former fishing towns of Fishhoek, St. James and Kalk Bay before passing though the South African Naval town of Simonstown. After which you will head down to the famous meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian oceans at Cape Point. Here you can stop for lunch where you can sample local South African cuisine before heading up the world-famous scenic Chapmans Peak drive into Hout Bay, Camps Bay and the V&A Waterfront, before returning to RETZA with wonderful memories.

Hi had a really great three day/two night western cape tour with RETZA. The service was great, from booking and getting information about the tour, to collecting the bike and hitting the road. My Guide Kevin, was excellent and his knowledge of the area and leading gave for a good trip. He even changed parts to include more gravel roads and a river crossing along with several passes, the BAIN KLOOF PASS 25km of twisty roads. (watch out for Leopards road sign was a first) The hotels selected were great, especially in the wine area of Groenberg. The bikes Royal Enfield Classic 500cc performed excellent, only an issue was a loose mirror, very common, but with a road side repair (black electrical tape), we carried on without any other issues for the trip. Wherever we stopped the bikes the stars of the trip, with lots of comments from people saying how great they looked, kitted out with the saddlebags. Very 1940's look. For a longer trip, I think a slightly larger motorcycle would be better for the motorways, howver, looking forward to trying the new Himalayan 450, to how this performs.
