Schotia Safaris is the oldest private game reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, bordering the eastern side of Addo Elephant National Park. Schotia was the first reserve in the Cape Province to have free roaming lions and we can almost guarantee sightings of these magnificent animals on every game drive. We had a great day visiting Addo & Scotia. I really recommend it because it was a beautiful experience. You get lots of information from the guide (Riaan) about the animals and the area. I also recommend to do both parks! We really enjoyed it. Thanks again!

We had a really wonderful time in the full day safari at the Addo Park and Schotia Game Reserve. This was on a weekday in the latter part of January 2026. The parks were not crowded, and the weather was great. What made the safari really wonderful was our tour guide Riaan. The service he provided has exceeded our expectations. When we disembarked our ship at Port Elizabeth, Riaan was waiting for us where we were supposed to meet. We were pleasantly surprised to see a very new 4x4 vehicle for 10 passengers, and the four of us were the only customers. So we practically have a private tour to ourselves! Although Riaan looked relatively young, he has been in business for 30 years. His experience really showed when he navigated his way to the animals with little effort. He provided directions to other tour guides, as if he could view a map of the roads he has memorized over the years. He also had an amazing ability to spot wild animals hundreds of yards away when cruising along the roads in the parks. We appreciate the information he shared with us about the animals, which include different kinds of antelopes and wild hogs, zebras, giraffes, the big five, and many others. We learned some very interesting facts about the behaviors of animals we encountered. He also showed his care and respect for the animals and the environment, which is quite admirable. We never felt rushed because when we were observing the animals or taking pictures, Riaan would not move the vehicle until we were done. We were given time to take breaks for coffee/tea and restroom. A complimentary lunch at a restaurant was also included in the package. As we came to the latter part of the afternoon, we had not spotted any lions yet. Riaan was quite determined to track down the lions before we left Schotia Game Reserve. Upon receiving information from other tour guides who had spotted the lions, he was able to locate the lions within a 10 minutes drive. We left the park completely satisfied with the safari experience. If you plan to go on a safari in South Africa, I would highly recommend Riaan as your tour guide. He is with the Zasendle Adventures. Thank you very much for a wonderful safari experience, Riaan!
