Welcome to Cape Rail Company.
We offer a HERITAGE passenger rail experience to various destinations in the Western Cape, departing from the train platform at Harbour Bridge Hotel in Cape Town. We offer day and longer train trips.
Most of our coaches are around 70 years old. They are all lovingly maintained by an enthusiastic crew, who keep them looking as good as new for your comfort. Our coaches are serviced and maintained at our Ceres depot. We create work for the residents of Ceres ,offering contracts for various tasks. We have various coaches each with their own unique seating experience.
We have two Class 19D locomotive #3321 and 3322, (these were manufactured in 1948 in the UK and 235 were placed in service between 1937 and 1949 in South Africa), a Class 19B locomotive #1412, and the very famous, one of a kind South African refurbished in (1981) Class 26, fondly known as the Red Devil. We are also fortunate to have a privately owned Class 24 at our disposal.

"Where do I begin to tell the story of how great a love can be, a sweet love story that is bigger than the sea, where do I start?" ? The Elgin rail experience is thesis in warmth, humanity and service. South Africans have the ability to show love in such a courageous way. The team were responsive, agile, friendly and organized. From solving our bicycle challenge to serving us whatsapp messages, alerting us to dangers, sights, hospitality and possibilities. Its a reel of Cape Town along the rail, up and down valleys, mountain-passes, suburbs, farm and villages. Everyone along the rail who sees the train passing by, cheers and waves. It is a beatiful thing. I can't wait to do it again

We do the Elgin Trip regularly and each time the experience is better. We never tire of this treat.. My family of eight occupied the lounge car which we loved. Our Coach controller (and all the staff) were very attentive and helpful. We'll be back soon and look forward to trying the wheelchair facility as I am bringing my cousin along who is not mobile.

The best experience ever. Michael and Rita were amazing and we were given updates on progress continuously. Jan, the driver, when asked by Michael, ensured that I could get an audio of the train whistle for my son. Personal care is given to every passenger. 10 stars!
