Welcome to Cape Rail Company.
We offer a HERITAGE passenger rail experience to various destinations in the Western Cape, departing from the train platform at Harbour Bridge Hotel in Cape Town. We offer day and longer train trips.
Most of our coaches are around 70 years old. They are all lovingly maintained by an enthusiastic crew, who keep them looking as good as new for your comfort. Our coaches are serviced and maintained at our Ceres depot. We create work for the residents of Ceres ,offering contracts for various tasks. We have various coaches each with their own unique seating experience.
We have two Class 19D locomotive #3321 and 3322, (these were manufactured in 1948 in the UK and 235 were placed in service between 1937 and 1949 in South Africa), a Class 19B locomotive #1412, and the very famous, one of a kind South African refurbished in (1981) Class 26, fondly known as the Red Devil. We are also fortunate to have a privately owned Class 24 at our disposal.

It was worth the wait, seeing that we have booked for the previous Saturday but due to a technical fault the trip was cancelled . The trip we went on was really a nice experience and worth the wait! The staff was nice and professional always checking in with us and answering any questions we might have had. And the market was also a nice touch! We have recommended the trip to our family and friends! Well done!!!

Imagine you are busy having a heart attack,but this time you not calling out for help.You aware of the staff (doctor) you see the ER ward(cabin) doors that flang open and you just wish they will enjoy your heart attack as you enjoy your last moments.I hear nurse( barman ) calling a glass of Merloooottttt my hand stretch out yes yes yessss You about to go in to the pass(Sir Loures) the valley of joy about to get real,you hear the klank of wheel's (instruments), doctor shout( whistle) and you shout leave me alone please I ready to meet Joy. Ceres Rail staff. I can't thank you enough.You have lived up to all my expectations and will see you again soon. You and your families have a wonderful Christmas and joyful New Year 2024. We loved the steam train experience! Please keep up your friendly service. The beautiful train was nicely taken care of. The toilet facilities on board can do with some care and attention or a touch of paint, tough. The upper bunk bed in our family coupe didn't want to open, but we didn't want to force it. Not a train smash. Our kiddo took a nap on the lower bunk while we hung around watching the beautiful scenery go by. We can't wait to book a multi day steam train trip.
