Weltevrede Wynlandgoed
The Jonker family has lived on Weltevrede since 1912.
The third generation, Lourens Jonker, completed his degree in viniculture and undertook extensive study tours of the wine lands of Europe and California in 1962 before settling down on the farm Weltevrede. After the death of his father in 1969, Lourens took over the 65-ha farm. He subsequently purchased neighboring farms Muscadel (1969), River’s Edge (1981), and Sonop (1999). Today all the farms are consolidated as a 160-hectare estate.
Lourens is one of the pioneering figures of the South African wine industry establishing a legacy as chairman of the KWV and serving on several industry bodies. He also served on boards of companies outside the wine industry, like ABSA and Naspers. He received the National Farmer of the Year Award for South Africa from the Agricultural Writer’s Association of South Africa in 1996. Lourens stepped back recently to leave the estate in the hands of his son, Philip. He now enjoys a more relaxed lifestyle.

Most tranquil Wine Estate I have visited. Beautifully kept gardens with gorgeous views. Our host / guide was knowledgeable and friendly. He did not rush us, attended to all our questions laughed at our jokes and still managed to stay within his hour appointment. I had visitors from Bloemfontein and they loved the experience as much as I did. Will certainly go back.

What an exceptional tour. My daugter's first introduction to Cap Classique and she cannot stop talking about it. Our host had excellent knowledge of both the farm and the Cap Classique method and gave such an insightful tour with so much passion and heart. We will be back for the other tour as well but definitely worth your while. Thank you for a great time spent at your wine farm.

The winery is phenomenal. What a beauty, proof of inner peace. Great wines. Fantastic restaurant (Kapokbos) where we had an incredible lunch for no money. The guided tour is interesting but a bit Disneylandish and too long. It lacked authenticity. But overall one of the most beautiful estates I have ever visited. Congrats.
