A fine tour, though it involved some energetic climbing to the high point of the town! After the walk around the old city, we went to a small brewery, where there was an interesting tasting of a sample of their beers. Then to a second brewery, where we had an excellent meal but skipped the beer tasting. The visit to the township was saddening, but showed what life is like for many folk. Excellent and enlightening.

We booked a full day tour, the Ultimate Port Elizabeth Tour. It included a half day walking tour of Port Elizabeth and a half day township tour. Unfortunately it rained off and on during the morning tour which put a damper on things! The tour guide was very good though. Very understandable and since he had been imprisoned during apartheid he had some very good stories and insight. I would recommend this tour. After the walking tour we started the private township tour for four of us. This was led by a man who currently lives in one of the townships and had for many years. He was full of information, very pleasant and very easy to communicate with. The tour ended at his home where we met his wife, saw her teaching preschool and enjoyed a meal at their home of chicken, veggies and dessert with your choice of wine or juice. This was a great tour and I highly recommend it.
