My two travel mates and I were so glad we did the Township tour. Our driver and township guide were excellent. We found the tour to be impactful and an eye opening experience. We were able to stop by where the guide actually lived for most of his life. While we were not able to see the actual room that he shared with 15 others, we were able to visualize his struggles while living there. His neighbors and the children were very welcoming of our time in their township. We even got to try some of the fried bread which I think is called Vetkoek. It was delicious! We walked through the township to the old men's hostels and then to the shanties and the "homes for the more successful" in the township. What we valued the most was the authenticity of the guide and driver and their stories.
