One of my best experiences ever!!! The entire vibe on the train is one of joy. Everyone's waving from the train and onlookers waving back, cars hooting and truck drivers waving! Such happiness. I felt pure excitement. The trip is beautiful. The train is a dream. The staff so passionate. I will do it again and again. I left fulfilled and rejuvenated from a humble train trip.... A mystery to be experienced!

A truly unique and enjoyable experience! We booked a coupe and can recommend that option if you'd like a more private (and quiet :) trip. This is a very slow and relaxed experience - there are frequent and sometimes long delays but we expected this and it didn't bother us at all...this experience is about enjoying the journey in a historic manner and not about getting to the destination as quickly as possible. Reggie, who was our attendant, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly...overall we felt very welcome onboard. The journey itself was an interesting mix of scenery...from the docklands of Cape Town, through and along the urban edge (which now includes informal settlements, thanks to human settlement encroaching on the old railway line), and finally into the beautiful mountains just before reaching the market. Highly recommended!
