More about Pretoria Tour

This half-day private Pretoria tour takes you from Johannesburg to South Africa’s capital city to experience its historic sites and national monuments that tell the story of South Africa’s rich history.

The stately Union Buildings, the Voortrekker Monument, the Paul Kruger House Museum, Church Square, Ou Raadsaal, the Palace of Justice, and the Capitol Theatre are among the places you will visit.

The Union Buildings serve as the official seat of the South African government and also house the offices of the South African President. The imposing structures are situated on Meintjieskop at the northern end of Arcadia, close to historic Church Square in Pretoria.

The Voortrekker Monument is located on a hilltop just south of the city centre. The granite structure was built to honour the Voortrekkers who left the Cape Colony between 1835 and 1854. Gerard Moerdijk was the architect who designed it.

Kruger House is the historic Pretoria home of Boer leader and South African Republic President Paul Kruger. It was designed by architect Tom Claridge and built by builder Charles Clark in 1884.

Church Square, formerly Market Square, is a square in the historic heart of Pretoria. Marthinus Pretorius, the city’s founder, decreed that the square be used as a marketplace and churchyard. The Ou Raadsaal is a historic building on the south side of Church Square that housed the Volksraad, the South African Republic’s parliament 1891 to 1902.

The Palace of Justice is part of the northern façade of Pretoria’s Church Square. Sytze Wierda, a Dutch architect, designed the building in the nineteenth century. It is currently the Gauteng Division of the High Court of South Africa’s headquarters. On the north-western corner of Church Square you will also see the ornate “atmospheric” Capitol Theatre that was built in 1931.

Your MoAfrika driver and guide will explain in detail the spectacular city architecture and historical events that occurred at the time.

Itinerary: Depart from Johannesburg Day 1 - The Capital City Pretoria Guests are collected from any address in Johannesburg or Pretoria and taken on a guided tour of the Pretoria city highlights. We visit the Union Buildings which are the seat of the national government. You’ll have a chance to stroll through the beautiful terraced gardens and enjoy a spectacular view of the city. Our next stop is the Voortrekker Monument. This monument is of great significance to many Afrikaans-speaking South Africans because it stands for Afrikaner Nationalism. The interior walls depict the story of the Great Trek, a mass movement of Afrikaner Boers who resented British rule in the Cape and trekked north. The next interesting site is the Paul Kruger House Museum. Learn more about the former president of South Africa and view a display of furniture and personal items that belonged to the Kruger family. The tour continues on to Church Square, Ou Raadsaal, Palace of Justice and Capital Theatre. Your driver takes you back to where you are staying at the end of the tour. *Please note : Kruger House closes at 12 noon on Sundays Return Johannesburg
