Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides offers guests an unforgettable view of the bush, river and beach around Jeffrey’s Bay and the chance to see wildlife including bushbuck, rare birds and even whales, as well as breathtaking dunes and vegetation on guided two-hour horseback rides.
Started by Frankie and Esré Lötter in 1996, Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides now have plenty of well trained, good-natured horses, as well as experienced guides who escort riders twice daily on a 13 km route culminating in a 6km stretch of pristine, deserted beach. This popular experience is not to be missed.

I have been involved in the horse industry for the past 50 years ...which includes Rodeo (barrel racing ) and riding Polo horses. While on vacation at Jeffrey's Bay myself and my boyfriend decided to stop by and go for a beach ride.. The first thing we noticed is the care of the horses is at a high level ...they actually rotate the horses to give them a break monthly... Our guide is extremely talented and skilled at reading the students skill level..... They've got a variety of horses which will handle every level from beginner to expert.. I highly recommend if you are looking for a fun and safe day riding horses in a gorgeous atmosphere .....This is the place to go... Jane

Lovely ride through the dunes and onto the beach. I am an advanced rider so got to canter a bit on the beach which was lovely. The horses are well looked after and are stocky, strong horses. This is probably the first horse riding experience I have had which I felt (as a rider and horse owner) comfortable to do and enjoy. The only word of criticism or caution I can offer is that I was paired with beginner riders and when Jan and I took off down the beach, their horses decided it looked like fun and they came with. The saddles are lovely and safe so nobody fell off but it was a bit scary for my fellow riders. Otherwise though, a lovely experience which I hope I will be able to do again sometime!

A Must Do Adventure at Papiesfontein
We had an absolutely amazing time on the 2 hour beginners beach horse trail. Riding through the dunes, along the surf, and back through the dunes was just breathtaking. Having done rides in different parts of the world, this was by far the best experience my family and I have ever had. Our guides, Jonny and Giant, were fantastic and everything was so well organised. Highly recommended and I would certainly do it again.
