We had a great trip into Lesotho via the Sani Pass. There were only two of us as it turned out, although they limit numbers to quite small parties anyway which makes them adaptable to the traveller's preferences. We had two excellent guides who, were knowledgable and friendly, pointed out and identified wildlife and could answer most of our questions without attempting to bluff if they couldn't. For the cycling part, we are not well acclimatised to altitude and, as this part of Lesotho is between 2000m and 3000m, we were left pretty breathless by modest climbs which, coupled with our somewhat limited off-road expertise, meant we didn't ride to anything like the potential offered by the excellent hard-tail mountain bikes provided and by some of the open terrain. We visited a number of sights and entertainments - singing & dancing shepherds, a talk on Basotho culture, a trip around a historic (but still functioning) Catholic mission, singing and dancing medicine women. These were not big staged tourist performances but were presented by the local people in the environment of there own small villages. They varied from slightly forced and unenthusiastic to some great performance and fascinating facts. Lesotho is very different from nearby South Africa and it was great to explore this if only very briefly.
